Woman Lake loop

Minnesota

Distance: 29 miles

Time: 38 minutes

You'll reach Longville and change over to Minnesota Highway 84 and follow that along the south side of the lake. That's where the roads get really interesting (in a good way).

Sweepers and curves make a fun run through Central Minnesota Lakes Country

Riding through the lakes area in Minnesota is a great opportunity to find curvy roads that weave through a multitude of lakes.

The lakes are plentiful north of Brainerd, Minnesota. And the good news for motorcycle riders is that there aren’t many straight roads to navigate through them.

The Ride

The Woman Lake Ride starts in Hackensack and heads east on County Road 5/Woman Lake Road. County 5 winds north of Woman Lake and turns into Highway 84 South after Longville on the east side of the lake. Follow Highway 84 until County Road 11 and complete the loop back to County Road 5. Staying on 84 South is a great alternative to County Road 11 to head south to Pine River. The ride is 29 miles and I averaged about 50 miles an hour over the course of the ride.

The Road

County Road 5 features some long sweeping curves up until you reach the lake. The speed limit drops on the northwest corner of the lake due. It opens up to 55 once you’ve passed the residential area along the lake. It’s a quiet road with breezy curves. You’ll reach Longville and change over to Minnesota Highway 84 and follow that along the south side of the lake. That’s where the roads get really interesting (in a good way).

There’s a sign just outside of Longville that cautions drivers of “Weaving road next 4 miles.” It weaves. And it’s great. The only thing that detracts from the ride is the road snakes (asphalt filler used to repair the road). The repairs were done perpendicular to the road and my bike bumped and jumped a little on those. It almost felt like I had a flat tire in a couple spots. There were a few of the road snakes that wobbled the bike a little, but it wasn’t too bad.

The road is definitely worth adding to a trip through the Brainerd Lakes area.

The Bottom Line

Riding through Minnesota has some good scenery and some great motorcycle roads. Take the time to put Woman Lake on your itinerary. You’ll find plenty of other excellent motorcycle roads throughout the region. Woman Lake is worth the trip.
