Ely Run on MN Highway 1
Distance: 62 miles

The Ely Run on Highway 1 is the best motorcycle ride in Minnesota
The best motorcycle road in Minnesota may be one of its better-kept secrets. The Ely Run in the Arrowhead region of Minnesota (as of this writing) is no longer a secret. Why? Because it is the best motorcycle ride in the state. Scenery. Check. Good roads. Check. Fun riding. Check. Every box is checked on this road. It is the best.
Minnesota Highway 1 runs from Ely to just north of Silver Bay on the North Shore of Lake Superior. It’s 62 miles of excellent roads. Road construction last summer was annoying and caused a long stop for a flag person on one-lane road. The roads are practically brand new throughout the entire ride. They are in awesome condition. The speed limits are mostly 50 mph with a few slowdowns to 40 mph. There are plenty of twists and turns that will require downshifting.
The brand-new roads only make the ride more incredible for motorcycles. Minnesota Highway 1 twists, rises, and falls through the pine and birch forest. This is over the river and through the woods in real life (only you don’t have to go to grandma’s house…unless you want to). Sweeping curves followed by tight curves followed by short bursts of straightaways make this run tons of motorcycle fun. The pace is perfect. The road will make your bike happy. And you too, I guess.
The Bottom Line
This is the best motorcycle road in the state. I’ve laid it out there. Feel free to challenge me on it.
